History
This page is an attempt to record the Band's History. Many years are missing though, so we need help from you to fill in the gaps. Many thanks to Louise Rodway for providing some information for the years 1993 to 1996.More help is required though, especially for the 1980's (I wish I had got copies of the results sheets at all the competitions I went to during this time, including my favourites, the Scout Nationals and the Sandy Competitions!).
2000's
2008
The Band took part in three St. George's Day Parades this year! Walthamstow on the 20th of April, and Haringey and Enfield on the 27th.The Band also took part in the TYMBA South East of England Contest at Hornchurch, finishing third. See the Contests Page for the full result.
And in November, the band took part in the Lord Mayor's Show, in two massed bands. Most of our young people took part in the Jack Petchey Unity Band, along with Army, ATC, and Sea Cadets. The rest of us took part with a Scout Association Massed Band, along with five other Scout Bands, Alderley, Thurmaston, Spen Valley, Halesowen and Tonbridge.
On the 100th Anniversary on the 1st of August, the band joined with Enfield District Scouts in celebrating Scouting's Sunrise, simultaneously with all Scouts around the world at 8am.
Over 40,000 Scouts from around the world came to the UK to celebrate the 21st World Scout Jamboree, held at Hylands Park in Chelmsford. The Band took part in the Closing Ceremony.
The band took part in the Lord Mayor's Show, as part of a massed Scout Band called the Promise Centenary Scout Band.
And finally the band played outside the O2 Arena (formerly known as the Millennium Dome), in Greenwich, during Scouting's final celebration of the Centenary, Live '07.
2006
The Band competed at the TYMBA National Finals in Cannock and two other competitions, in the Novice Class. At the Nationals we finished Runners Up and were promoted to the Contest Class.
2003
Our highlight of the year was the Royal Visit to Enfield of Her Majesty the Queen, and the Duke of Edinburgh. We displayed at the 50th Anniversary Enfield Town Show, which was also attended by Her Majesty's Royal Marines Band Portsmouth. Six members of the Band have also attended a workshop run by the Royal Marines Band, attended by seven other Bands. This website was first created in November.
2002
Following our 2001 Remembrance Sunday parade as part of our 25th anniversary, the band was invited by the Old Enfield Charitable Trust to march as part of their display at the Lord Mayor's Show. The Trust awarded us a grant to enable the purchase of the new style blue Air Scout uniforms which we wore for the first time at the Show.
2001
The band celebrated it's 25th anniversary with many former members (including current Webmaster & Bass Drummer, James Haslam) coming back to play at the St George's Day and the Remembrance Sunday parades.
1990's
1998
The band competed at the TYMBA National Finals in Bracknell, and at three other competitions. At the TYMBA Nationals, we came away with the best Drill in the Contest Class. Our Drum Section leader, Russell Grove, took 2nd place in the Drum Solo competition.
1997
Competed at TYMBA's Rushmoor Youth Band Contest in Aldershot. Also the band combined with Waterlooville Youth Marching Band, Burgess Hill Marching Youth, 17th Tonbridge Scout & Guide Band, and the Dorset Youth Marching Band to provide a massed band for the Rye Tattoo.The long time Bandmaster, Mick Bennett, retired, and the reins were passed to Mick's son, Richard, who is the present Bandmaster.
1996
Competed at the 16th Kingston Youth Band Contest in the Championship Class and improved on the previous years by bringing home seven trophies for Best Wind (non-valved), Best Drums, Best Bell Lyres, Best Drill, General Musical Effect, Display & Showmanship, and the Championship Class Winners trophies. The Band's routine included the Light Division's famous "doubling" fast march. Another band in the Contest was the 1st Claygate Scout & Guide Band. At the Enfield Nationals Youth Band Contest, at the Royal Albert Hall, the band were runners up. The band also took part in the National Music Day parade.
1995
Competed at the 15th Kingston Youth Band Contest in the Championship Class and won four trophies for Best Wind (non-valved), Best Drill, Best Bell Lyres (Mallet Percussion) and were Runners Up. Another band in the Contest was T.S Cossack (Crawley) Sea Cadet Corps.
1994
Competed at the 14th Kingston Youth Band Contest in the Championship Class and won three trophies for Best Wind (non-valved), Best Drill, and were Runners Up. Other bands in the Contest were the Kingston & Malden Scout & Guide Band, and the 2nd Hook (St Pauls) Scout & Guide Band. Current Webmaster & Bass Drummer, James Haslam, left the band at the age of 25, only to return in 2001.
1993
The band was invited by the 1st Hook Scout & Guide Band to do a Band Spectacular at the Tolworth Recreation Centre. Other bands that took part were the Kibaek TambourKorps from Denmark, Surbiton Royal British Legion YMB, and the 1st Claygate Scout & Guide Band. Following this we were invited to enter the Kingston Youth Band Contest.
1992
The band took part in the National Music Day parade in The Mall to Buckingham Palace in London.
1990
Current Tuned Percussion section leader, and Assistant Bandmaster, Melanie Cross, joined the band.
1980's
1987
Current Percussion & Bugle sections leader, and Assistant Bandmaster, Russell Grove, joined the band.
1984
Our first really successful year, with several wins in competitions around the country, including the Enfield National Youth Band Championships at the Royal Albert Hall.
1982
Current Webmaster and Bass Drummer, James Haslam, first joined the Band at the age of 12, playing at first Cymbals, then Side Drum, and in 1986 went onto the Bass Drum.
1970's
1976
The band was formed in 1976 by Bill Hill, and then a few years later was led by Mick Bennett.When Mick retired, the mace was passed onto Mick's son, Richard Bennett who is the present Bandmaster. Richard joined the band in this year!
